Born to Mary Cheesequay and Edward Hedican in Guelph, Shaun is a
member of the Eabametoong First Nation and the Loon Clan. Early in
life he became an initiate of the Grand Medicine Society. Here,
he learned the concepts, practices and spirituality of his people.
Hunting is very important to Shaun. He has learned how to harvest the
traditional foods of his people and has generated new techniques.
In the summer of 2009, Shaun moved to Toronto and began painting.
Shaun's style of painting can be attributed to his experiences,
Ojibway Iconography and traditional art forms such as beadwork,
birch bark engraving, porcupine quill work and pictographs.
